William returns home. To his surprise, his wife is nowhere to be found. The absence of both his wife and their one-year-old son immediately worries him. Determined to find out whats going on, he heads next door to ask the neighbour if shes seen his wife. Just as he walks over, the neighbour herself comes out of her house holding Williams son.
It turns out that Williams wife had left their child in the neighbours care and hurried out on some urgent business.
Although William has looked after their son on his own before, he cant help but wonder what could have led his wife to leave so suddenly. Still, hes grateful she thought to leave a meal for him in the microwave.
Time drags onhalf an hour, an hour, two hours, then fiveand Williams worry escalates. He tries ringing his wife repeatedly, but she doesnt answer any of his calls. The hours slip by, and his anxiety only deepens. Eventually, he manages to get his son settled in bed, all the while waiting for his wife to come home.
At last, the phone rings. With hope, William answers, eager to ask his wife where she is and whats happened during the day. But, to his immense disappointment, she dodges his questions. Instead, she tells him she wont be coming home and has decided to leave their son in Williams care for good.
Shocked and distraught, William struggles to grasp what hes hearing. He clings to the phone, wishing it was all just some dreadful prank. Now, faced with an overwhelming new reality, William must embrace the daunting challenge of raising his son alone, taking on both mothers and fathers roles from this day forward.
