Well, as fate would have it, I never married and haven’t got any children. Yes, my life turned out rather peculiar, didn’t it? I’m now 57recently celebrated my birthday, actually. The festivities were quite exclusive: just me and my dear mum. There was no one else to invite, you see. I haven’t got any friends, and Mum and I dont have a single relation left.
We live together and always look after one another. Mums 86 now. I honestly dont know what Ill do when shes no longer around. Though, truth be told, shes still in fairly fine fettle! Even as the years go by and her health isnt exactly improving, she refuses to let it bother her. She even pops out for a walk on her own.
Ive retired, but still fiddle about with a bit of work here and therethe pensions hardly enough for the bare essentials, let alone the odd treat. But Im not discouraged at all and grateful Ive got my lovely mum. After all, there are plenty worse off: some folks dont even have a flat to call their own, or family, or a penny to rub together.
Mum and I live quietly, and lifes quite peaceful. We brew a proper cup of tea in the evenings, do a bit of knitting, and watch our favourite films and telly shows. At weekends, I bake cakes and invite the neighbours round. They regale us with stories about their families. I genuinely enjoy hearing about peoples happiness, and always hope mum and I sidestep any misfortune.
Thats the way we live, really. I want this lovely life of ours to go on for as long as possiblefor both me and my mum.
