When John arrived at work that morning, he was met with an unexpected scene. The staff were gathered together, celebrating something with laughter and jovial conversation. I wonder if theres a holiday today? John pondered, feeling a bit out of place. Indeed, mate! Were celebrating the fantastic news that my wife is finally expecting! replied his colleague, Matthew.
Everyone around John was genuinely thrilled that Matthew was soon to be a father. Suddenly, another colleague approached John with a wink and said, Youre the first bloke Ive seen who celebrates his wifes pregnancy. Usually, you throw a party once the little one actually arrives. Youre a top lad! Just be warned, everyone around you is about to shower you with advice and share tales of fatherhood – most of them will be wild and terrifying! John couldnt help but be amused and a little startled by the remark.
The colleague nodded knowingly, Over the next nine months, youll be at your wifes beck and call. Mine wouldnt let me rest at all when our first born came into the world! Your wife will bombard you with requests and shopping lists, and the excitement might wear thin as the months go by. Another staff member chimed in, How many kids do you have, and how old are they? The colleague replied, Two, but I always forget their ages. My daughter must be about seven or perhaps six. John fell silent and let the others carry on.
Later that evening, when John returned home, he embraced his dear wife warmly. Lucky they didnt realise at work youre due any day now! They still think you have nine months left. You wont be able to resist telling them soon enough, I suppose, she teased. Ill do my best not to let it slip, John chuckled.
Not long after, his wife gave birth to a healthy baby boy. They named him Max. John took some time off from work to support his wife and newly arrived son. From then on, he couldnt wait to rush home each day to his family, even as his colleagues failed to understand his eagerness. For John, his family always came first, no matter what.
