Maria was the head of the family. She received a good salary, and Nick always sat with her daughter. Maria could safely stay late at work, and on weekends the abyss for the whole day. The family did not collapse only because of 7-year-old Elizabeth.
One day Maria called her husband and said that she would be late. When her husband tried to object, she replied sharply:
– If you earn more than me, then you can call the shots.
This was the last straw for Nick. In the morning, while his wife was still sleeping, he quickly gathered the most necessary things and left the key on the bedside table. In the afternoon, his wife came to work. She could not understand why Nick did that.
After 2 days, realizing that her husband was not joking, she even apologized. But it did not help. Maria switched to threats. She went to her husband’s boss, made scandals everywhere, threatened that she would not let him see her daughter.
Nick rented an apartment, started moonlighting as a repairman. One day a girl named Mia came to him and brought her laptop. They already knew each other, so they quickly got to talking. Six months had passed since the divorce. Nick still met with his daughter, who, however, did not accept Mia. Anyway, the young people did not rush the girl, she would get used to it.
One evening Maria called:
– Elizabeth has a fever. Very high. I do not know what to do. She is calling you. And Mia. Isn’t she a doctor?
Nick and Mia rushed to the girl. The woman immediately realized what was wrong with the girl. She treated her quickly, put her to bed.
– Dad, don’t go. Stay here with me. Nick saw Mia off, sat with his daughter for an hour, and got ready to leave. But Maria stopped him:
– Don’t go.
– They are waiting for me.
– I regretted what I did. What about your daughter?
– You tell my daughter why I left.
The next day, Elizabeth called.
– Dad, we talked to Mom. She told me how badly she treated you. Tell Mia I’ll get better soon and we’ll go out.
