My friend had to pass exams this year. She wanted me to recommend a tutor who could help her prepare for the exams in chemistry and biology: Isabella wanted to enter a good medical academy on a budget. Unfortunately, they did not have the opportunity to pay for tuition. They only had enough money to pay for travel, buy food and clothes.
I was very surprised because in childhood Isabella was fond of drawing, she had an incredible talent, she always won prizes at exhibitions.
As it turned out, the girl’s parents did not consider it a serious profession, so they insisted that their daughter become a doctor. How will she earn money later? As an artist? A fashion designer? It’s just entertainment, they said.
Isabella did well in school, but she had problems with chemistry and biology, so she needed a tutor. Mom and dad disagreed and stood firm. They claimed that they care about the future of their child. Isabella was very offended by her parents, she did not even talk to them.
She could not imagine how it is possible to study in the field of activity in which you do not see yourself at all. But her parents were sure that Isabella was just a child and it was too early for her to make decisions.
I remembered a case related to my relative. She and her husband forced their son to become a lawyer in the same way, because they themselves worked in this field. The son entered, but did not want to study, because he was fond of music and dreamed of becoming a singer. Soon he took his documents from the university, started singing in restaurants and stopped communicating with his family.
I have many examples when children dropped out of school and worked in another direction, but they no longer had contact with their parents. I advised Isabella a good teacher. She is a smart girl, she was able to enter and study for free. We can only hope that over time she will like the new profession…
