After graduating from university, Charlotte started working at a company with a fantastic teameveryone was friendly and close-knit. Her arrival only made the team’s morale even better. She was the sort of girl you always felt comfortable around, charming and genuinely lovely. Talking to Charlotte, it was impossible not to trust her. She lived in a new flat just around the corner from the office.
One colleague, James, immediately took a liking to her, and when he discovered she had her own one-bedroom flat, he looked practically over the moon. Nearly 30, James didnt really have much to his name.
He always played the victim, making a show of the fact that he commuted from a little village for work. He liked to make out that it was all such a hardship, especially when he had to head back after a long day. Yet, strangely enough, hed rarely make it homeoften, the girls in the office would let him stay over. Charlotte really was the dream womaninside and out, there was absolutely nothing you could fault her for. Everything about her was just right. For three years, James clung to her like a limpet.
Charlotte was always away on business trips and made a decent living. James, on the other hand, was frail due to his student years and poor health. They spent a lot of time at appointments with doctors and, sadly, couldnt have children.
There was never any talk of marriage. Occasionally, their manager would share the story of his nephew, whod proposed to his girlfriend, only to find out just before the wedding that she had cancer, already at stage three. They did get married, and the young man, full of life, cared for his dying wife… Three years went by. Charlotte started thinking, Hes living at my place, I pay for everything, and he has never mentioned marriage. She finally confronted James about her concerns. In response, he went out, bought a ring, and announced their engagement.
After returning from yet another business trip, Charlotte found James waiting for her. He said, Im not ready for marriage. Im too responsible; I cant take on someone elses life… Keep the ring, as a reminder of the love we shared Charlotte was never the same afterwardsshed never expected such a parting gift from someone she loved.
Then, her boss sent her off on another business trip. He handed her a theatre ticket and threatened to fire her if she didnt use it. At the theatre, she met her bosss widowed nephew. They ended up sitting side by side. Over the course of the business trip, Charlotte and her new companion spent all their free time together. Charlotte became pregnant, and both were overjoyed.
They quickly planned a wedding and made Charlotte feel like a princess. In the ten years since, theyve had two sons and are now considering a third child. It doesnt matter if its a boy or a girlthe most important thing is that the child is healthy! Theyve built a strong, loving family.
James, meanwhile, has never worked out what he actually wants from life. He thinks family is an expensive luxury and never wanted to take on responsibility for someone else. Once he finally paid off his car loan, he bought himself a new laptop, which caused quite a stir. No one knows how hell pay off this latest purchase…
