I worked abroad for many years in order to provide my children with a place to live. And it turned out that apart from money, my kids didn’t need anything from me at all

I worked abroad for many years. I went to work abroad to help my children buy apartments. I have a son and daughter and I wanted to help them. I was earning good money and so I helped my children buy a house. But in the last two years it became harder for me to work, because of my age and difficult working conditions. So I decided to work one more year, make some money, and come back home. I wanted to repair my apartment and live in peace.

So I did. I was so happy when I came home. With the money I earned, I started making repairs to my apartment. The children called me rarely. They had their own things and problems each time. When I finished making repairs to the apartment, I invited my son and daughter to visit me. I cooked a delicious dinner. And then during dinner, my daughter told me that she wanted to go into business, but she didn’t have the money to do it.

– Mom, can’t you still go abroad and work for a while?

I looked at my daughter with surprise. And then my son said to me:

– Yes, Mom, that would be nice! I want to buy myself a new car!

And I was very unpleasantly surprised at my children’s behavior. And I explained to them that neither my age nor my state of health allow me to work. And my children took offense at me. They took my refusal very painfully. They asked me to give them the money I had. But I refused, because then I would have no money at all.

Then my children left. Two weeks had passed. Neither my son nor my daughter called me once. I realized that they didn’t need me at all without money. They didn’t even want to know how I was feeling or if I needed their help. And I worked for many years so that they could buy a house for themselves. And they have never once thanked me for that…
