My husband and I have been married for seven years. Weve had a good life together, more than comfortable. My husband runs his own business and I work mostly for enjoyment, not out of necessity. However, for seven years, we had no children. One day, my husband surprised me by booking us a month-long holiday abroad at a luxurious resort. I was over the moon about it. Yet only a few days before the trip, my husband told me he had urgent business negotiations that could determine our future, so he insisted I go on ahead without him. Naturally, I was upset, since Id already pictured us sharing every beautiful day together in paradise. He suggested I take my best friend with me instead, so that I wouldnt be lonely and she could also get a break.
My friend hadnt had the easiest life. Her mother liked to drink and rarely gave her any care or guidance, letting her get on as best she could. After finishing school, she fell pregnant and was pushed into marriage. Her husband would come home, cause arguments, and generally make life difficult for her. When I invited her along, she was absolutely overjoyed and really grateful to my husband.
A month later, I returned. My husband picked me up from Heathrow, and at home I found a fabulous candlelit dinner waiting, with rose petals scattered all over our bed. Everything was perfect, just like a film.
Two weeks later, I told my husband that I was pregnant. He was over the moon. But when I started having contractions and ended up in hospital, my friend rushed over to my husband and told him I had been abroad a whole month, that Id had an affair, and that the baby couldnt possibly be his. When I found out, I felt destroyed, sure that no one would come to collect me when I left the hospital and that Id have nowhere to go with the baby.
In the end, the exact opposite happened. My husband showed up for us, met our baby daughter, realised immediately that she didnt look a thing like him, but decided to raise her as his own regardless. That very day, he told my friend to leave and never contact us again.
