I used to think my marriage was going welluntil a friend asked me a simple question.
I married young, swept up by love. We dated for four years before tying the knot. Weve been through a lot together.
Weve lived together for over six years now. I trust my husband completely, just as I trust myself. Hes sweet, caring, and always thoughtful. He helps with chores around the house without complaint. He isnt the bravest or strongest of men, and you wouldnt call him handsome, but he has the kindest souloverflowing with warmth and unwavering faith in good, which gives me strength even in the toughest moments.
Yet hes indecisive, utterly reluctant to step out of his comfort zone or push forward. Hes painfully shy as well. In all these years together, he hasnt changed a bit.
He neglects his health, resists any kind of change, and clings to routine. Hes nearly ten years older than me. Im twenty-six, full of life, with a great job, my own car, and a mortgage were paying off together. Then, out of the blue, my friend asked me, What do you even need him for?
That was the end of my quiet contentment. Now Im left sitting here, wonderingwhat *do* I need him for?
