I Thought My Marriage Was Perfect Until My Best Friend Asked Me One Simple Question

I always believed my marriage was going welluntil a friend asked me that question.

I married very young, full of love. We dated for four years before tying the knot. Weve been through so much together.

Weve lived together for over six years now. I trust my husband completely, just as I trust myself. Hes sweet, caring, and considerate. He always helps with household chores. He isnt the bravest or strongest of men, nor would I call him particularly handsome, but he has an incredibly kind soula boundless well of optimism and faith in goodness that keeps me going, even in lifes hardest moments.

Yet hes indecisive, utterly unwilling to step out of his comfort zone or move forward in life. Hes painfully shy, too. In six years together, he hasnt changed at all.

He neglects his health and appearance, and the mere thought of change terrifies him. My husband is nearly ten years older than me. Im twenty-six, full of life, with a great job, my own car, and a mortgage on our house in Manchester. Then, the other day, my friend asked, “What do you even need him for?”

That was the end of my private happiness. Now I sit here, wondering: *What do I really need him for?*
