I Thought My Marriage Was Perfect Until My Best Friend Asked Me One Simple Question

I thought my marriage was fine until my friend asked me a question.

I married young, swept away by love. We dated for four years before tying the knot, and weve weathered plenty together.

Weve lived under the same roof for over six years now. I trust my husband completelyjust as I trust myself. Hes sweet, caring, always helping with chores. Hes not the bravest or strongest of men, nor could you call him handsome, but he has a startlingly kind soul, an ocean of optimism and faith in goodlike a steady current that pulls me through lifes roughest tides.

Yet hes indecisive, utterly unwilling to step out of his comfort zone or move forward. Painfully shy, too. Six years together, and he hasnt changed a bit.

He wont look after himself or his health. The smallest change unnerves him. Hes nearly ten years older than me. Im twenty-six, in love with lifethriving at work, bought my own car, paying off the mortgage on our little house in Leeds. Then, the other day, my mate Emily looked at me and said, *”What do you even need him for?”*

And just like that, my private happiness cracked. Now I sit here, turning it over in my mind: *What do I need him for, really?*
