I think my grandmother did a very ugly thing, and I was very offended at her for it…

– What are you offended by me? – Surprised my grandmother asked me.
– Yes, Grandma! I was offended, and very much! So I will not come to you anymore! Call your favorite Alina! Let her come to you! Let her buy you groceries and clean your apartment! – I said.
– Well, good! I will! – My grandmother answered me.

She called me the next day and happily told me that Alina had bought her some very nice groceries and cleaned her apartment perfectly.

– That’s all I will ever ask her to do from now on! And I won’t bother you anymore! – My grandmother told me.
– So great!

Why was I mad at my grandmother? Because she gave Alina, my brother’s fiancée, earrings and a ring, which were our family heirlooms. For centuries they had been passed down in our family through the female line.

I was sure that one day I would get these incredibly beautiful earrings and ring. But that didn’t happen. My grandmother gave them to a complete stranger! My mother died when I was only five years old. All these years, these jewels were kept at my grandmother’s house. My brother lived with my grandmother a long time ago. I lived with my mother. Then my mother died, and I started living with my grandmother, too.

When my brother brought Alina to our house, my grandmother liked her immediately. All day long my grandmother admired Alina for how wonderful she was: beautiful, kind, smart, and an excellent cook.

And so when my brother told my grandmother that he wanted to marry Alina, my grandmother joyfully gave Alina earrings and a ring, which should have gone to me. Was that fair? Of course, I became very offended! Why would she give the family heirlooms to a stranger? How could she do this to me, her own granddaughter? What kind of a thing is that?!
