I Paid for My Son’s Happiness: How I Chose His Bride, Made a Secret Deal, and Watched Love Blossom

I paid for my son’s happiness

I spent many nights mulling things over, until at last I decided: I would choose a wife for my son, and a daughter-in-law for myself. The right girl, and then Id see to it they became a pair. My son is the most sought-after boy in the whole world. Im absolutely dotty about my son. I’ve always had him all to myself. I raised him to be toughlike a knightwith sleepless nights, nurturing him, nursing him, making sacrifices. And now, am I just to hand this perfect gentleman over to some other woman?

I knew it would come, that day when my son would find himself a partner, but the thought of giving him up was unbearable. So I hatched a plan.

I took it in stride when my son began fancying girls. But I couldn’t for the life of me get along with that spoiled lass hed brought home. I told him straight out she wasnt right for him. What we needed was a well-mannered, pure, and modest girl.

My son hadnt a clue about my plan. I began searching for a bride with all the care and gravity the task required. I needed someone with whom I could speak freely, with whom I could share a cup of tea and a laugh, perhaps.

There werent many prospects: the girl next door, my friends daughter, a handful of girls from my sons old school. When I had a chat with the neighbour and her daughter, I realised she wasnt the oneshe was round as pudding, and I wanted my son to be happy, and hes always liked a slim lass.

Next, I spoke to my friends daughter, but found out she had a boyfriend, so that was that. As for the girls from his schoolwell, I wont bore you, it was a thorough disaster.

I was at a loss. Fresh out of girls. So I had no choice but to keep an eye on my son and see what sort of women drew his fancy.

A little white lie, I told him I wanted to glimpse him at work. He grumbled about it, but agreed. I spent the day watching him mingle with his colleagues. I paid close attention to which of the young women he noticed. I got to chatting with them and learned plenty of thingssome rather spicy.

By day’s end, it was clear I wouldnt find his bride at the office. On our way back home, my son suggested we stop by a café. At first, I declined, but then wonderedperhaps Id find the right one there…

And in the café, I saw my son charming the socks off a pretty waitress. In that instant, I knew she was the one Id been searching for…

The girl was gentle and unassuming. I took her aside and revealed my scheme.
Are you off your trolley? she asked. This isnt decent, surely?
Well, dont you want something better? My son could turn your life around.

So, I made her an offer: a fine lump sumfive thousand pounds, enough to send her brother to university and then some. The bonds of sisterly love proved stronger than her principles, and she swore shed fall for my son.

With our bargain struck, we kept in close touch. I advised her on every little way to win his heart!

Results came faster than I dared hope. My son lost his head entirelyhe was smitten, utterly besotted. He talked about her all the time, told me sheLucywas the most beautiful girl, how well she cooked, what tunes she liked, which films thrilled her. One afternoon, I asked him to introduce us, which he did, beaming.

When Lucy visited for tea, we had a calm word. She confessed, red-cheeked, that shed genuinely fallen for my son, and then, to my surprise, tried to give the money back. But that was never my plan.

They were in lovewhy would I snatch the money away now? I told her to keep it, and start preparing for the wedding.

Now, my children are happy, and I have the most obedient daughter-in-law, whos fast becoming my dearest friend. Our little secret belongs to us, and always will. Im delighted my plan gave my precious son his happiness!
