I Got Married Six Months Ago, but Ever Since Then There’s Something I Can’t Get Out of My Mind—A Heated Argument Between My Wife and My Best Mate on Our Wedding Day That No One Will Talk About

I got married six months ago, and since then theres been something I cant shake off.

Our wedding reception was held in a lovely garden. There was loud music, shimmering lights, people happily dancing. At one point, I stepped out of the marquee for some fresh air. From a distance, I spotted my best mate and my wife standing off to the side, near the loos. They werent just chatting. They were arguing.

My wifes hands were moving restlessly, her gestures sharp and tense. My friends jaw was set rigid. The music drowned out most of their words, but you could feel the tension between them.

I approached slowly, hoping they wouldnt notice me at first. When I got close enough, I distinctly heard my friend hiss at her, Were not bringing this up ever again.

His voice was cold, almost cutting.

Thats when they saw me. I asked them what was going on, what they were talking about.

They both looked startled. My wife jumped in first, saying it was nothing, just nonsense. My friend hurried to explain theyd been bickering about a game, some silly bethed suggested something, she wasnt having any of it, that was all. Their explanation was muddled, rushed, lacking any real detail.

They changed the subject straightaway and shuffled back inside, acting like nothing odd had happened.

For the rest of the night, I did my best to keep the party mood going. We danced, raised our glasses, thanked all the guests. But whenever I caught a glimpse of the two of them together, their words were clipped, their eyes never quite meeting. Not another word was spoken between them in front of me all evening.

I didnt press them about it that night.

After the wedding, life rolled on. I settled into married life with my wife. We kept seeing my best mate and his girlfriendget-togethers, birthdays, the usual plans. No one ever mentioned what happened that day. No odd messages, no strange phone calls, nothing concrete I could put my finger on.

Except for that moment.

And yet it lingers. That exact phrase. His tone. The urgent way they cut their conversation. The way they reacted the second they noticed me.

I dont have any proof. No messages, no scenes, no confessions. Just that argument on my wedding day and the feeling Id interrupted something I wasnt supposed to hear.

Six months have passed and its still on my mind. I havent accused anyone of anything.

Now I find myself wondering:

What do you do with a doubt like this, when youve got nothing to go onjust a feeling something happened on that day?
