I gave my daughter a flat as a wedding gift. Only later did I realise what a terrible mistake Id made.
I had a wonderful wifebeautiful, kind, clever. We were together for twenty-three years. Those were the best years of my life. But recently, a dreadful illness took her from me. We raised our daughter together.
When my wife was still alive, she suggested we buy another flat to rent out for extra income. But my pension was barely enough to get by. She said if we rented it, the money would trickle in, and if times got tough, we could always sell. Propertys always a safe bet. Our daughter, Emily, was now able to manage her own living arrangements.
When Emily accepted her boyfriends marriage proposal, I gave them the second flat as a wedding present so they wouldnt have to rent. But I soon regretted it deeply. I always thought my daughter had a good head on her shoulders, but then she did this.
After I signed the flat over to her, she sold it straightaway and bought a brand-new Mercedes with the money.
“Where are you going to live, Emily?” I asked.
“Oh, Dad, well easily save up for another place, but for now, well just rent. James and I have always dreamed of owning a car like this. Weve still got a few thousand left, so weve decided to fly to Spainweve earned a proper holiday!”
Saying I was shocked would be an understatement. Did they keep that car long? Of course not! Three months later, my son-in-law crashed it, and the thing was scrap. At least Emily wasnt hurt. Then she found out her James had taken up with another woman and left him.
Emily had no choice but to move back in with meshed lost her husband, the flat, and the car.
