I brought my boyfriend home, and my dog started acting strangelybarking at him and jumping around. Later, I discovered the reason behind my dogs odd behavior.
A few weeks ago, I met a guycharming, attentive, and as if straight out of a novel. He gave me flowers for no reason, sent sweet messages every morning, and treated me with care. I was sure he was the one.
Wed met at his place a few times, so when he suggested coming to mine, I agreed without hesitation. I live aloneexcept for my dog, a gentle, calm pet who never barked, not even at the mailman.
The moment we entered the yard, my dog went berserk. Loud barks, pinned ears, frantic jumpsI was stunned. Hed never acted this way.
*Guess he doesnt like your vibe,* I joked to lighten the mood.
My boyfriend forced a smile but seemed tense.
*Can you put him away? What if he bites?* he muttered.
*Dont worry, hes harmless. Maybe its your cologne,* I said, leading my dog inside and shutting him in the kitchen. But the dog wouldnt stopscratching the door, howling, barking as if sensing danger.
My boyfriend said he felt uneasy, couldnt stay, and left.
After that, he vanishedno calls, no texts, nothing. A week later, I learned something horrifying, and suddenly, my dogs behavior made sense. More below
Days later, I saw him on the news. Arrested. High on drugs, hed driven into someone at a crosswalk.
I stood frozen, phone in hand, skin pale with shock. One thought consumed me: *What if my dog hadnt sensed it? What if hed stayed? What if Id gone to sleep while he was in that state?*
Since then, Ive never doubted an animals instincts.
Sometimes, they know far more than we do.
