What on earth is wrong with some mothers? Honestly, you wouldnt believe it. This one sent her child to a childrens home just because she couldnt be bothered to get him treatment, and the poor boy was only four!
Now, Ive got this one friend, Sarah Ive known her for thirty years and shes just the loveliest person you could hope to meet. She would have been a brilliant mum, but sadly, she and her husband never managed to have their own children. The powers that be decided not to bless them with kids, but the two of them stuck together, probably because they simply adore each other.
Ive been rather luckier Ive got two daughters myself. Sarah is their godmother, as you might guess. She lives just round the corner and, well, why not? Ill never forget how much fun she had playing with my girls, and how many times shed mind them when I was in a pinch. Wed sit in my kitchen, sipping tea and having a good cry about how unfair life can be.
Then, one day, some distant cousins of Sarah got in touch. They told her about a relative on her dads side whod decided to pack her son off to a childrens home. Apparently, the doctors had given him a tough diagnosis something that needed treatment, and she simply didnt have the money, or maybe just didnt fancy the bother. His mother, from what I hear, was more interested in chasing after blokes than looking after her lad.
Sarah told me about all this and said she felt like she had to go and see the boy. Well, her hearts always been in the right place. As her husbands since mentioned, the moment she set eyes on that poor boy and saw the look in his eyes, she just knew she had to take him home. And her husband was right behind her.
It wasnt a walk in the park, let me tell you. There was more than a year of rehab, endless appointments with specialists. The boy was on the autism spectrum but somehow, they managed. They poured their hearts and all their savings into helping him.
And would you believe it? Now, that boy Daniel is 24, and a perfectly normal young man. Hes got a university degree and a collection of sports medals to boot.
I only just got back from his wedding yesterday.
