How Can I Live Now? My Sister Turned Out to Be a Traitor

**Diary Entry**

I don’t know how to carry on—truly, I don’t. My own sister betrayed me.

My husband and I were what people call inseparable. Everyone admired our marriage—quiet, steady, warm. He was always polite to me, at home and in public. Even my friends would marvel, saying such harmony was too good to be true. “It won’t last,” they’d warn. I’d just laugh. But they were right. Perhaps they jinxed it.

It all fell apart so suddenly. It began when my younger sister lost her job. She was left with no income and a crushing guilt. We’d always been close—since our mother passed, I’d been like a parent to her. Without a second thought, I invited her to stay with us until she got back on her feet. We gave her the spare room.

At first, everything was fine. But soon, the atmosphere shifted. My husband grew tense and irritable. The little things that once made him happy no longer did. The smile that used to greet me after work vanished. He became snappy, picking fights over nothing, constantly complaining about my sister—misplaced mugs, laundry hung wrong.

It unsettled me, but I chalked it up to stress. One evening, I gently spoke to my sister, hinting she should be more mindful to avoid disrupting our routine. She nodded, insisting she understood.

Then came the moment that shattered everything.

That day, I came home from work earlier than usual. The flat was silent. I assumed everyone was out—until I opened our bedroom door, and my legs gave way. There he was. My husband. And my own sister. Under our duvet. On our bed.

They didn’t even try to explain. I shut the door wordlessly and walked to the kitchen. My heart hammered, my ears rang. My world collapsed in an instant. Everything I’d built, everything I trusted, was a lie.

I didn’t scream. Didn’t make a scene. Just packed his things and left them by the door. My sister I threw out immediately. Her tears and excuses? I hadn’t the strength or the will to listen. How could she do this to me? How could she tear apart her own family—and mine?

Months have passed, and I still have no answer. How do you survive betrayal like this? Can you ever forgive it? My soul feels hollow. Everything I loved has turned against me.

But I’m trying. Each day, breathing comes a little easier. They say time heals. I’m not sure. But I believe, one day, I’ll learn to trust again. Just not so blindly.
