How can such mothers exist! She sent her own child to a care home because she refused to treat him, and the little boy was just four years old.
I have a dear friend named Emily. We have been close for thirty years now. Shes a wonderful person and would have made a marvellous mother, but sadly, she and her husband were never able to have children of their own. For some reason, fate didnt bless them with a family, but their deep love for each other kept them together through everything.
I do have children myselftwo daughters. Emily became their godmother, of course; shes my closest friend and lives just down the road, so it made perfect sense. I often remember how Emily would play with my girls and look after them whenever I needed her help. More than once, we sat together in my kitchen, crying because she didnt have children of her own.
Then one day, some distant relatives got in touch to tell us that a far-off cousin on her fathers side had decided to send her son to a childrens home. The doctors had given him a difficult diagnosis, and they simply didnt have money for his treatment. His mother wanted nothing to do with itshe chased after every man she could and had no interest in being a parent.
Emily told me about what had happened and said she felt compelled to see this boy for herself. As she later told me, the moment she saw him and his sorrowful eyes, she knew immediately that she had to bring him home. Her husband agreed.
Caring for the boy was no simple task. They went through more than a year of therapy and appointments with different specialists. He was diagnosed with autism but, against the odds, they managed to help him improve with unwavering effort.
You might not believe it, but now JAMES is 24 years old. Hes a perfectly fine young man, with a university degree and an impressive collection of sports medals. Just yesterday, I returned from his wedding.
Sometimes, life gives us family in the most unexpected ways. The real value lies not in what were given, but in the love we choose to give.
