One day Grace came to her sister and started to tell her:
– You won’t believe me, but something strange is happening in my house!
Seeing her sister’s worried face, Sandra put down her book and listened to her attentively, propping her chin on her hand.
– This is not the first time! Things in my apartment are constantly changing. My husband hasn’t been home for a week, he’s on a business trip, I’m all alone. But I’m definitely not crazy, I don’t touch anything myself! Can you imagine, I come home from work one day, and in my closet the laundry is laid out by color. I never do that! And the next day someone rearranged my dishes. Yesterday I came back from work and saw that my curtains were hanging differently.
– And who could it be but you? – my sister asked puzzled
– I do not know, but I read in the book about the house and…
– Grace, what are you talking about! – Sandra jumped, – Are you out of your mind? What kind of house?
– You’re laughing, but I’m telling you the truth, – my sister was offended, – I left him candy at night, they disappeared in the morning, and the wrappers were in the trash. He also sometimes washes dishes for me.
– Of course, he is a good housekeeper…
The sisters sat together for a while longer, and then Sandra suggested to spend the night at her sister’s place and catch this housekeeper in the act. At night, the sisters hid and waited.
Closer to twelve, they heard the sound of the front door and rustling in the kitchen. Grace was very frightened, but Sandra went to check. Grace’s mother-in-law was in the kitchen. Sandra laughed for a long time after this story.
Everything was quite banal. Grace’s husband left the keys to her mother. And recently her daughter moved to her with her children, they did not give her peace, so she, tired of the noise, came to Grace to rest. In order not to disturb her with her presence, she came either at night or when she was at work. And she rearranged things because she wanted to help. The mother-in-law cried and apologized for scaring Grace. Grace calmed the woman down and invited her to come whenever she wanted.
