– Get your stuff and go. I want you and me to break up. Understand, I can’t stand your cheating anymore,” cried Mother, and raked all my father’s things into the suitcase.
– Lucy, wake up! What are you talking about? I have no mistress!” – Dad started to make excuses. And at that moment my mother took out a letter and my father understood everything. He packed his things and left, but shouted:
– Look at you! What have you become. The woman I loved is gone. You are nothing. You’ll never be happy now! But I will! Believe me! She’s beautiful, and she can make me happy!” – my father said with a smile. But he was wrong. Mom and I were fine without him.
– Mom, why didn’t you kick him out sooner? He was always yelling at you, at me. And how can a man who loves always be unhappy and rude? Why did you put up with all this? – I tried to get an answer…
– I wanted you to have a family so you wouldn’t feel left out among your peers. You know, I grew up without a father and I know what I’m talking about. Our father abandoned us, and now you’re repeating the same path and I’m bitter,” Mom said in tears. – Man was born to be happy! And we were not happy.
– And you were not happy. You will meet your love. Don’t worry about me. Look at my fists,” I waved my baby hands. My mother laughed and hugged me.
My father was wrong, because it was my mother, and I was with her. But before that, she and I had had a lot of grief. The thing is, my father didn’t help us at all. He even paid very little alimony. He made a special note that my salary was small, so he wouldn’t have to pay the full amount. Mom went to him several times.
– You’re the one who kicked me out. We could have lived like everyone else. And my daughter wouldn’t have grown up without a father! You made your choice, and now it’s up to you,” he answered his mother sharply.
– But it wasn’t her fault. You were the one who broke up with me, but there are no ex-boyfriends. She needs you, – she begged his mother.
– Look, Lucy, this conversation is over. I have nothing more to say. I ask you not to seek any more meetings with me.
After this conversation my mother didn’t sleep all night: she sobbed in her room. I didn’t know what to do to help her. She asked me to give her time to come to her senses. In the morning my mother was already very different. She was beautifully dressed and wearing makeup, and I didn’t recognize her.
– I’m sorry I got a little soft yesterday, sweetheart. You and I are two beauties and we’ll get through it. I have you, and you have me! So we’re gonna make it! But I can’t do it without your help. You have to promise me that you won’t fail me in school, and I won’t fail you in everything else! – she said to me in a very serious and mature way.
– Mom! I give you my word that I won’t let you down! – I answered, thinking over the meaning of each letter.
Mom worked very hard, but with all that, she always found time for us to be together. Despite the fact that there was a lot of work, she looked like a very happy woman. She just blossomed. I didn’t let her down either. Graduated high school. Mom didn’t get married. Said she didn’t want to have a long-term relationship anymore, even though she was called many times.
– I feel so good on my own! I’m almost a grandmother, and you want to marry me off, – Mom joked.
– Mommy, I’m going to go to school soon, and you yourself – I did not resign.
But my mother didn’t want to hear it. I met my father when I was 26 years old. He asked to see me through my mother. And she’s a kind soul, she talked me into it.
– You know I don’t hold it against you. I don’t feel anything for you-no love, no hate, no anger. Nothing! You’re just a stranger to me,” I told my father when we met.
– I’m your father! You can’t argue with that! – He tried to press me on it.
– Of course he did. I don’t mind, unlike you. But you don’t know anything about my life. You’ve missed everything, so you’re just an outsider.
– I can help you. I have a successful business and I have the financial means. I want to make things right. Let me be there for you,” he begged.
– My mother taught me since childhood not to take any help from strangers and always rely on myself,” I answered sharply and cut the conversation short by walking away.
Of course my mother scolded me for doing that to my father. But it was not my intention to punish him. I really had nothing to say to the man. We lived our whole lives without him, and now I don’t want him in mine.
Do you think the girl was right not to forgive her father?
