For as long as I can remember, my brother has held a grudge against me, but I never imagined he would get his revenge on my wedding day in such a low and spiteful way.

As the saying goes, every family has its share of troubles, and sadly, despite being brought up in the same household, my brother turned into a bit of a brute and even ended up spending time in prison. To shield myself from his bad influence, I did my best to keep contact to a minimum. Things changed rather a lot for me, though, when I met a wonderful woman and decided to ask her to marry me. As soon as my brother found out about my girlfriend, he wouldn’t let up, constantly ribbing me and insisting that he should meet her, saying we’d all have to cross paths at some point anyway. I was hesitantI didn’t want my future wife to get the wrong impression of my family. Yet, circumstances forced my hand, and I eventually had to invite him. It was only on our wedding day that my wife laid eyes on him for the first time.

My brother swore he’d be on his best behaviour, but, as expected, he didn’t stick to his word. It was obvious hed always harboured some sort of grudge against me, and he chose my special day to get his own back. Right in front of our guests, he insulted my wife without an ounce of shame, despite all my efforts to reason with him. Hearing my wife’s desperate cries, I rushed over to intervene, only to be met with his open hostility and threats that he was willing to hurt his own brother over a woman.

My brother’s disgraceful conduct ruined what should have been a happy occasion. He refused to acknowledge what he’d done, which only deepened my hurt and disappointment. After this upsetting incident, I made the difficult decision to distance myself from him. I steer clear of gatherings where he’s likely to appear, even if it means enduring criticism from other family members. Its tough to keep communication going with someone who seems unwilling to change. Despite his frequent calls and expressions of remorse, it’s hard for me to believe that people ever truly change.
