After 28 years, Emily decided to overcome her fear of heights for the first time. She decided to take this step after the most painful betrayal in her life: her husband left her best friend after 6 years of marriage. Emily with these thoughts was walking to board her flight, dragging her suitcase, which resisted her in every way.
– Girl, let me help you, – a voice suddenly heard behind her.
Emily turned around and saw a young man reaching for her suitcase.
– Thank you, I’ll manage, – said Emily.
– Looks like we’re on the same flight, maybe I can help,” he offered again.
– Didn’t you understand the first time? I repeat, I don’t need help, I’m fine.
Emily sat back in her seat and began to replay the events of the last few days in her head.
– “What is this, if not fate!” Suddenly, a familiar man said, sitting down next to Emily.
– “God, you again, why did I do this?” – Emily thought aloud.
– “You never told me your name,” the stranger asked.
– I’m Emily, I hope our communication will stop at this question, – Emily showed with all her appearance that she was unpleasant to meet a new acquaintance.
– Arthur, it’s a pleasure, – he extended his hand, which, of course, remained in the air.
Yes, Emily showed that she did not like Arthur’s company, but in fact she even felt calmer when Arthur sat down next to her. Throughout the flight, he occupied Emily with his stories about his first flight, said that he often flies for work and uses the plane more often than the subway. Already at the airport Emily realized that during the whole time in the air she had never thought about the altitude, her ex-husband or her cheating girlfriend.
At the airport she saw an ad for a rented apartment. Emily immediately called the number and agreed to move in the next day. In the meantime, she took a taxi and went to the hotel.
The next day, as agreed, Emily went down to the coffee shop where she was to meet the owner and pick up the keys. While she was waiting for him, she poured a glass of coffee on herself.
– Wow, what a meeting, I see that the day did not start well in the morning – Arthur appeared out of nowhere.
– Let me guess why, – Emily said in her usual cold tone.
– My friend rents an apartment in the city, and he is absent. Yesterday he called and said that there was a new tenant, Emily, and our city is small, Emily is not much, you know…
