I was returning home in the evening when I suddenly saw my clumsy neighbor Ida. The whole village is talking about her, because she and her husband drink together, although they have four children.
– Oh, what people, listen, can you take my newborn Anna to your place?
– What are you talking about, how can you throw children around? You’d better go home and get some sleep.
– No, you don’t understand. I’m serious, my husband and I decided to go to the city, to work there. We will leave the children with grandma, but my youngest Anna is only 9 months old, grandma can not cope with her. Take her to your place.
I quickly left Ida, and at home I told my husband everything. He thought about it, he felt sorry for little Anna, she is just a newborn baby who is no longer needed.
The next day Ida came to my work sober. She had a suitcase in one hand and a small ball in the other.
– Here, my daughter Anna. Either you take her, or I will leave her at the station, and it will be on your conscience.
Of course, I took the girl. And Ida happily went to the station with her husband. I did not expect that it is possible to get rid of a child so easily. I brought the girl home, my husband fully supported me in this decision.
The first days the baby screamed and cried a lot. There were no family and familiar voices around, some strange hands, no mother’s milk. But then everything became easier every day, the girl got used to it, and my husband and I fell in love with her.
When Anna grew up, she decided that she wanted to become a doctor. She went to study in the city. It just so happened that she rented an apartment with her girlfriends, and the owner of the apartment was Ida’s sister. Her sister Lucy immediately called me and said that she understood everything, because the surname is ours and the girl is very similar to Ida.
We decided not to tell Anna the truth, let the girl live peacefully, not knowing that her parents were alcoholics. Aunt Lucy turned out to be a very kind woman and said that she would not charge Anna for rent. We explained to our daughter that Aunt Lucy was just a good friend of ours.
