We know you’ve heard that a dog can be a human’s best friend. But have you ever imagined if it’s possible to build that bond with a fish? Pay attention to the story we are going to tell you below. Hiroyuki Arawa, an expert Japanese diver, has been going to Tateyama Bay for 30 years to visit Yoriko, a Semicossyphus reticulatus fish. This is due to the fact that since 1987 they have formed a great friendship.
The events occurred when Hiroyuki was submerged in the sea doing maintenance work. However, while performing each of the tasks, he noticed that one of the fish that was nearby was having difficulty moving. At that moment he decided to approach it to see how he could help it and realized that the fish was trapped. Because of this, he also interpreted that the animal had not been able to forage for several days.
Following that finding, Hiroyuki made the decision to feed Yoriko 5 crabs so that it would start to regain its strength. In addition, he provided the food for 10 days straight and only left until he was sure that the fish’s health had improved. From that moment on, Hiroyuki became Yoriko’s best friend because he provided all possible care to save her life. Thus, every year they meet without fail and continue to strengthen their relationship. Moreover, the fish shows all kinds of trust to the diver. Therefore, during their time together, he plays all kinds of games and allows himself to be filled with a lot of kisses.
Thus, Hiroyuki consistently states that the first encounter with Yoriko is one of the ones that has filled him with the most pride and happiness throughout his life. These fish are part of the Labridae family and can measure up to 100 cm. They are found in southern South Korea, Japan and the South China Sea. The Semicossyphus is characterized by a kind of hump on its head and its body color can be salmon or gray. In addition to this, the areas it inhabits the most are those where there are reefs. As for its diet, it usually eats crabs, mollusks and lobsters. Likewise, they have a big appetite and can eat up to 3 times during the day.
As adults, they are recognized for having very strong teeth and for being a species that takes over their spaces. Because of this, in aquariums they can never be left next to smaller fish because they will eat them. Finally, it is a hermaphrodite fish and therefore females become males after 10 years of age. In addition, at that time they acquire such a powerful appearance that can cause them to become the new leader.
