Sometimes my wife, children and I stay with my mother-in-law. In the morning, she prepares breakfast for us while everyone else is still sleeping. But her breakfasts are different from ours. I don’t know if this is due to national culinary rules, because they have a tradition that breakfast is the main meal, you need to eat a lot, or if it’s her habit – she thinks it’s right. But it’s unusual for me to eat such breakfasts. Since childhood, I was taught that breakfast should be light and easy to prepare. It can be some kind of porridge, eggs, cheese, salads, etc.
The idea is that after breakfast you should feel a surge of energy, you shouldn’t want to sleep, because it’s morning, you need activity for the whole day. But after my mother-in-law’s breakfasts, I feel like going to bed. It becomes difficult to move and work, I feel tired. The thing is that she cooks something fried, with a lot of oil, some meat, fatty fish, only sometimes she makes salads, and then with all possible fatty ingredients. But he dresses it with sour cream, saying it’s healthier. I’m not arguing that she cooks incredibly tasty meals with fresh ingredients, but her breakfasts are more like lunch or dinner.
I thought that most people thought like me and was very surprised to find out that this is a regular breakfast for all their family. I feel funny when I imagine what would happen to all of them if they ate my breakfast. They probably wouldn’t have survived until lunchtime. Once my mother-in-law was visiting us and was also surprised by our breakfasts. “Do you eat that much for breakfast? It’s not possible. Where do you get the energy and strength for the whole day if you stay hungry after breakfast? At least feed your children properly! This is an interesting difference. True, dieters also believe that you need to eat more nutritious breakfasts, but not fried meat and olivier salad?
