**Fate Never Asked: A Love Story That Couldn’t Be Destroyed**
Emily was over the moon. Finally, her beloved William had proposed—simply, sincerely, without any fuss, with that warmth in his voice that made her heart ache. Of course, she said yes, and within days, the whirlwind began: guest lists, dress fittings, menu discussions. It was like something out of a fairytale.
“Emily, love, I think it’s time you met my parents,” William said one evening. “Mum’s invited us for dinner on Saturday.”
“About time,” she laughed, kissing his cheek.
Come Saturday evening, they arrived at his parents’ home. Emily nervously opened the door—and froze. In the armchair sat William’s father, a stern-faced man with tired hands. He looked up, and his expression shifted instantly. Emily felt the ground drop beneath her.
That man was her family’s sworn enemy.
When Emily was just eleven, tragedy shattered her childhood. The parents of her best friend, Oliver, had died in a motorcycle accident returning from the city. It was a heartbreaking day. Her mother, Margaret, wept on the doorstep, while her father, Charles, only clenched his jaw. He’d always disliked Oliver’s father, Edward—a former rival from school. Once, they’d both loved the same girl, Catherine. She chose someone else, but Charles never forgot.
After Oliver’s parents died, he stayed with Emily’s family for a while, but Charles refused to let it last. He arranged for Oliver to be sent to a care home, telling Margaret: “I won’t have my daughter mixed up with that man’s son.”
He even forbade Oliver from calling Emily. A month later, the family moved to another town. The connection was lost.
Fourteen years passed. Emily graduated university and landed a job at a prestigious retail firm. The team was young but icy—some envied her looks, others doubted she’d last. Her first day felt endless.
On the fourth day, hurrying down the corridor with documents, she collided with a man. Papers scattered, they both bent to pick them up—and Emily’s breath caught. Her heart hammered against her ribs.
“Oliver?!” she whispered.
He looked up—and knew her instantly.
“Emily… My God, is it really you?”
They embraced right there, oblivious to the stunned stares of colleagues.
After work, he waited for her at the entrance. They went to a café and talked for hours. He told her he’d been adopted, that he worked at the same company. Emily invited him home to meet her parents. Her mother was delighted, but her father… Charles didn’t bother hiding his disdain.
“What do you do for work?” he demanded.
“Delivery driver,” Oliver replied, straight-faced—though Emily knew he was downplaying it.
Soon, they were dating. Happy. Emily glowed; Oliver doted. They became inseparable. Then one day, he took her hand and said, “Marry me, Emily.”
“Of course, Oliver! Of course!”
She rushed to tell her parents. Her mother wept with joy. Her father only said, “Do as you wish. But I’ll never like him.”
“Why do you hate him so much?!” Emily cried.
“I don’t owe you an explanation. You’re grown. Make your own choices.”
Oliver arranged the dinner himself, wanting her to meet his adoptive parents. Emily arrived—and stopped dead in the doorway. Oliver’s father was none other than Richard Harrington, the CEO of their company. A near-mythical figure in the office. And Oliver? Not a delivery driver, but his deputy. A co-owner of the business.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she whispered.
“You never asked,” he grinned.
Their colleagues had known all along—that’s why they’d eyed her with envy. And her father… sat speechless at the table, realising he hadn’t just been wrong. He’d torn apart a childhood friendship. Nearly kept them apart forever.
The wedding was grand. Oliver’s parents gifted them a stunning flat. Charles could barely look at them. Later, he confessed to Emily—he’d gone to the care home himself, forbidden Oliver from calling, orchestrated their move, believing he could outsmart fate.
“Forgive me, love,” he murmured. “I thought I was protecting you.”
“You were avenging a ghost. We’re the ones who paid. But fate found us anyway. Because love’s stronger than anything—even your grudge.”
Now, Emily and Oliver are happy. They’re building their future together, while the past lingers only as proof—true love always finds a way. Even through bans, separations, and years.
