– Mom, I’m buying an apartment,” David said.
– Where? What kind? – his mother tensed up.
– A one-room apartment. In the new buildings near the station.
– New buildings? But it must need repairs, right?
– No, it doesn’t. The apartment has already been renovated. The landlord did it himself. And he’s giving me a good discount.
– Why is he so generous? Property prices are going up.
– He said he liked me.
– I’ll have to take a look. Construction is terrible these days.
– Mom, come on. Yeah, you’re an honorary builder. I know. But Dad’s already seen it and approved.
– Your father is a journalist, and I am, as you said, an honored builder, – the mother was offended.
– Okay, you want to see, come and see. But please, Mom, don’t look for faults. Okay?
– Then why should I go? When you move in, invite me to a housewarming, then I’ll come.
Four months later David called his mother and asked her to come to him.
– Here the wallpaper started to peel off, – he said. His mother immediately packed up and left.
– The cracks are outside. This will lead not only to peeling of the wallpaper, but also to a draft. And the fungus will go away.
– But I checked it, – the son objected.
– You checked it when you bought it. And then it was June. The temperature inside and outside was the same. And now it’s November. It’s minus one outside and plus twenty at home. That’s how the defects show up.
The mother inspected the apartment for a long time. She found many flaws.
– David, we have to get rid of this apartment.
– But I just bought it.
– You either sell it or make major repairs. Otherwise you will be repairing it all your life.
– I’m not a millionaire, – David frowned.
Until May, David suffered. He calculated everything, with the help of his mother, of course. He came up with a lot of money, took out a loan and started major repairs. Of course, he asked his mother to control the quality of work.
