Dad Left Me With Mum and Only Remembered I Existed When There Was a Chance to Make a Profit

During the most challenging time in my life, my father left our family to be with another woman, abandoning my mother, my little sister, and me. My sister was just two years old and her health was fragile, only worsening as time passed. Caring for her demanded a tremendous amount of money, time, and patience. Although I couldnt fully grasp the nature of my sisters illness, I witnessed the pain my mother endured while she and my grandmother did everything in their power to help her. My father claimed he was exhausted and often argued with my mother, causing her even more distress. His departure felt like a personal betrayal to me, since he had always been kind and attentive to me while Mum cared for my sister.

The day my mother discovered my father had left us is etched in my memory as the saddest day of my life. He moved away to a different city, started afresh with another woman, and seemed to have erased us from his life. Even when my paternal grandmother pleaded with him to come back, he remained unmoved. A year later, my beloved sister passed away, and we were left shattered by grief. Despite this devastating loss, my father never returnednot even to bid farewell to his youngest daughter.

Losing her child caused my mother immeasurable pain, and my grandmother became my main source of comfort and support. Thankfully, both my grandmothers were warm and loving, stepping forward as second and third mothers to me. Gradually, my mother began to recover from her sorrow and remember that she still had me. With tears glistening in her eyes, she held me close and promised that she would never leave me, vowing to do everything in her power to make me happy. True to her word, she and my grandmother stood by my side, offering steadfast support and care. They even made sure I had a beautiful dress for my school leavers’ party, so I could feel like the loveliest girl in the hall.

For many years, I never saw my father again, though his memory never quite faded. He reappeared only once, at my grandmothers funeral, hoping to lay claim to an inheritance, having assumed she had left him her flat. But my wise and compassionate grandmother had made sure to leave her flat to me when I was just twelve years old. Her thoughtful gesture spoke volumes about our deep bond and her enduring care for me, reminding me that family is not defined solely by blood, but by love and loyalty.

In time, Ive learnt that while people may let you down, real family are those who stand by you through lifes storms, binding us together with compassion and support when we need it most.
