Peter received a call from his daughter Rebecca to ask him to look after his granddaughter Christine.
– Dad, we are going to my in-laws for the holidays, and you know how they treat Christine. Let’s leave her with you. Do you mind?
Peter didn’t mind, he loved his granddaughter. Twenty minutes later Rebecca arrived with her daughter and quickly left. Christine ran to her grandfather and hugged him.
– Grandpa, I missed you so much. Can we go to the dacha? I want to pick berries, help you with the garden, – said granddaughter Christine.
– Of course, we’ll go. Let’s pack our things, go to the store and go. We will cook your favorite barbecue, plant potatoes in the garden.
Grandfather and granddaughter went to the country. They played all day, even managed to go to the river, and in the evening they cooked barbecue. Then the granddaughter started talking to her grandfather.
– Grandpa, can I stay with you forever? I just don’t feel good at home with my mom and Uncle Mark, – said Christine.
– Christine, what’s wrong? Does Uncle Mark hurt you? You say the word and I’ll rip his ears off.
– No, he doesn’t hurt me. They just don’t like me. Mom’s always spending time with Dennis, and she never notices me. They always fight, and Uncle Mark treats me like I’m invisible,” Christine said almost crying.
Peter hugged his granddaughter and promised her that he would talk to Rebecca. A week later Rebecca came to pick up her daughter. Her father asked her to stay to talk.
– Dad, Mark is waiting for me, he’s going to be angry, – Rebecca said.
– Rebecca, this is about your daughter. Mark will wait. Do you know that your daughter is unhappy? She doesn’t want to live with you and Mark. She says you don’t love her, you only pay attention to one-year-old Dennis. You know that’s not right. It’s nobody’s fault that Christine’s father died. In order not to be alone, you decided to exchange your daughter for a man. How can you do that to your own child? I’m not giving you Christine. Let her be with me, I’ll take care of her. And you go on living with this tyrant, just remember that you will cry.
Rebecca left her daughter with her father and went home. Five years later she divorced Mark. Peter was right, his daughter could not tolerate his bad temper and strong jealousy.
