A former colleague of mine shared a funny story about her cat. At home, she had a large, white, and rather intelligent feline companion. She could talk about her beloved pet for ages, and I always found it fascinating to hear how clever our pets can really be.
Recently, my friend told me about an extraordinary event that occurred with her cat, which made her appreciate him even more. One morning, she woke up with a jolt, realizing she had overslept for work. Her alarm had failed to go off, and she only had 20 minutes until her workday began.
She had to get dressed, put on makeup, grab breakfast, and commute in a rush. There she was, dashing around her flat, pulling on a dress with one hand and brushing her hair with the other, lamenting how her boss would surely reprimand her for being late.
As she hurried around, she noticed her cat sitting calmly on the bed, curiously watching her frantic morning routine, his head moving back and forth in sync with her.
She paused for a moment, realizing she still needed to feed her cat, and quickly dashed to the kitchen to fill his bowl with food. “No time to pack lunch,” she muttered to herself with regret, and then rushed to the bathroom to apply mascara.
As she glanced in the mirror, she noticed her cat running back and forth from the kitchen to the hallway. Intrigued, she paused her makeup routine for a moment to watch him.
The cat would dash to her handbag by the front door, poke his head inside, and then run back to the kitchen, doing this repeatedly.
Perplexed by her cat’s behavior, she hurried to finish getting ready, threw on her coat, grabbed her bag, and dashed out the door. Strangely, her boss didn’t scold her that day; he was apparently late himself or otherwise occupied.
Her morning at work went smoothly, in its usual rhythm. But when lunchtime rolled around, she remembered she hadn’t brought any snacks from home. She decided she’d have to pop out to the nearest shop for some yogurt and a bun.
As she took her bag to retrieve her wallet, she found something curious scattered at the bottom of her purse. To her astonishment, among her keys and lipstick were small clumps of dry cat food.
At first, she was bewildered as to how they ended up in her bag, but then she recollected her cat’s odd behavior that morning. He hadn’t been running back and forth for no reason; he was packing her lunch.
Her clever pet must have realized she hadn’t had time to prepare food to take along, so he had done his best to ensure she wouldn’t go hungry. This touching act just reinforced how much our pets truly understand us and are always willing to lend a paw in times of need.
