Erin Wilson was enjoying a hike along the scenic Trinity River with her dog Eva, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois.
Out of nowhere, a mountain lion lunged at Wilson, scratching her shoulder. That’s when Eva fearlessly jumped into action to defend her owner.
Eva and the big cat [fought fiercely], but the lion managed to latch onto Eva’s head. Its sharp teeth [punctured] Eva’s skull.
Wilson immediately ran to her nearby truck and grabbed a tire iron. She, along with another female hiker who heard the commotion, began [beating] the mountain lion with the tire iron and throwing rocks.
The other hiker then used pepper spray on the lion, which finally caused the big cat to release Eva and retreat into the brush.
The two women quickly rushed Eva to a veterinarian. During the frantic drive, according to Wilson, Eva [convulsed] in the car.
X-rays revealed that Eva had suffered two skull [fractures] and a [punctured] sinus cavity. Eva stayed at the vet for several days, but after receiving fluids, she started eating again.
A video shows Wilson hand-feeding her heroic dog, and despite the [terrifying attack], there is good news. Eva was discharged and is now back home, resting on her own dog bed and surrounded by her toys.
You were loyal, brave, and true!
Wilson remains hopeful that Eva will make a full recovery. She has no doubt in her mind that without Eva by her side, she would have been [killed] [by] that mountain lion.
