Before the divorce, she looked after the child alone, but afterwards, she began searching for a nanny. She found one in her mother-in-law. At first, she asked her mother-in-law if she knew anyone who could help, but the mother-in-law offered her own services, of course, for a fee. Her salary isn’t large, so she has to save money.
At work, I have a colleague who’s barely getting by. She doesn’t take care of herself or go to the beautician. I always wonder where her salary goes. She works, lives with her parents, doesn’t have a mortgage like others, and her ex-mother-in-law takes care of her child. She also receives child support.
It turns out Rebecca has to pay her parents for her room, and her mother-in-law for babysitting; I wonder how she manages…
Six months ago, when Rebecca started working with us, we became friends. It was clear from the start that we had a lot in common. Shared interests, and children of the same age.
Rebecca quickly told me that she divorced her husband and moved back in with her parents. Her parents are doing well. They’re in their fifties, both working in good positions, and they’ve built a home outside the city. They spend every holiday abroad. When their daughter returned home, they offered her a room she could live in.
I thought she could live there for free, but unfortunately, they charged her from the beginning. She takes comfort in the fact that it’s her parents, not strangers—it’s always better for the child.
They also gave her a separate shelf in the fridge; she doesn’t use her parents’ things. Sometimes, they treat the child to some fruit.
I can’t understand behaving this way, especially when Rebecca had nothing after her husband left, so she was in debt to her parents for a few months.
Before the divorce, she looked after the child herself, but later she sought a nanny. Her former mother-in-law was an ideal choice because she knows her grandson, understands his likes, dislikes, what he can and can’t do, and she is responsible. Rebecca agreed to it, and when necessary, the mother-in-law takes care of the little one.
Everything would be fine, but Rebecca can’t afford life’s expenses, let alone a few luxuries for herself.
I simply can’t comprehend how parents can treat their own child this way…
