The lion leaned down, sniffing the boy. Suddenly, baring its teeth, it let out a deafening roarpanic rippled through the crowd as screams erupted everywhere. Everyone braced for the worst.
The boy sobbed in terror, curled into a trembling ball in the corner. Tears streamed down his cheeks as his tiny body shook with fear. The crowd held its breath.
But instead of attacking, as feared, the lion did something unexpected. It gently approached the child, licking him and nudging him with its muzzlealmost like a mother comforting her cub.
Gradually, the boy calmed. Trembling, he placed a small hand on the lions face, and the creature accepted it with quiet patience. The touch was tender, despite the danger.
Finally, the lion retreated to the far side of the enclosure, clearing space for zoo staff to approach carefully and rescue the boy unharmed.
