As a child, I noticed a pattern in the family’s girls. My mother and her sister were not legally married despite their intelligence and academic failure. Either they got pregnant, moved in together with a man and had a few children before being expelled.

In short, my mother had 5 children with 3 men.

My mother was disgracefully kicked out her marital home the day I was born. My dad found out that my mum gave birth to me, the third child of a girl, and immediately returned home to dispose of my mum’s belongings, pretending that she had only ever given birth to girls. After visiting the midwife clinic, my mother returned home to find her bedroom locked and her belongings out.

My father said he didn’t want to see any of us again and my grandma took my mom home. As children, my two sisters and me spent our lives in the maternal home. It is unfortunate that our father, the man who gave birth to our male child, died.

I was a curious child who watched everything. My mother shared the story with me when I was nine years of age. It inspired me to make a difference in the world.

A relative took me to the city for secondary education and I was introduced to Christ very early in my life.

I started praying for myself as a teenager to avoid following the same path that my mother and sisters did. Even though I was the SS1 Scripture Union secretary, I made it a point of praying that God would give us the right spouses when we were ready to marry. One student commented, “Aha..we haven’t even finished highschool, yet you’re praying for marriage.” “Prayer, it’s seed, therefore it is never too late,” I smiled.

The short version is that I graduated from secondary school and was admitted to college. All other girls can now participate as my older sister joined recently and my female cousins also succeeded.

Furthermore, I am legally and happily married to an angel of my spouse. This is another story for another day. It’s a story I will tell here to prove that there are decent men. My mother calls my marriage her “divine compensation”. Only GOD Almighty can change history if we submit to him.
