The sun has gone down. Tina has already woken up and gone to the kitchen, today her son is going to work to prepare his favorite dish. They will come for him in a few hours, enough time to cook. And let the son sleep. Her only son, the only joy in her already difficult life. She brought him up as best she could and raised a wonderful boy, and most importantly – a man! And handsome, and a master, and everything about him!
– Mom, – the son woke up, – what time is it, am I late?
– Two, son. Go back to sleep. I’ll make you a cup of your favorite tea.
– No need, Mom. We’ll leave soon. I’m gonna stop by Kelly’s and say goodbye. I promised to wait a whole year. And then, mom, you’ll have fun and grandchildren. Dozens of them! Don’t be sad!
Soon he was already sitting at the table and their favorite dish – cottage cheese cakes. Nobody likes them, only he eats them.
Tina sat down opposite and fell in love:
– Mom, why do you keep looking at me like that?
– I just want to see you in me, so that it would be enough for the whole year. I just want the time to fly by and you to be back here, sitting next to me.
My mother sent me to the countryside. We spent the last few minutes together. The whole year is ahead.
– You call me, son, often. You can say good night, and I’ll feel better.
– Sure, Mom! But don’t take it so hard. What’s with all the tears? And now I’m gonna have to live with…
She quickly wiped away the tears. The car came, my son got in, the door closed. He drove away. She stood there and could not hold back the tears any longer – they rolled and rolled, and she kept on standing.
– I’m waiting for you, come back, a year is not long.
– Aunt Mary, – my sister-in-law asks her sister-in-law, “this is the third day I’ve seen that old lady on the road, what is she looking for? She comes, smiles, cries and goes back. Who is it?
– That’s Tina! Her son went to work twenty years ago. There was no sign of him. And she, poor woman, must have gone crazy.
