So, the day started with a new girl joining our groupher name was Emily. She was about our age, but honestly, she stood out. Her dress was definitely not what most kids would wear; it had these obvious patches, and her red hair was pulled back into a ponytail, tied with a faded, old ribbon. Her big, green eyes seemed to hide a sadness you couldnt really explain. We later found out she came from a tough background. Emilys dad was raising her alone, her mum wasnt around, and their life was pretty modest, you could tell by the way she dressed and acted.
Among the kids in our class, there were the twins, Jessica and Molly. Jessica always seemed pretty down-to-earth and just blended in, but Mollyshe was trouble. Shed go out of her way to break other peoples toys and never got told off. Since her mum was the headteacher at the nursery, Molly acted like no one could touch her and honestly, she loved it. Molly picked on Emily a lot, kicking her, ruining her packed lunch, and pulling at her hair. Emily never complained, just quietly cried sometimes and hid in the corner. Whenever we tried to stick up for her, wed always end up being scolded by the teacher, since Molly was practically untouchable.
But then, on Emilys birthday, she showed up to nursery in a brand new dress. It was this soft pink, making her look so lovely, and it shimmered with different shades when she moved. The hem was decorated with small sparkling stones, catching the light and drawing praise from the other kidseveryone was commenting and admiring how pretty she looked.
The twins watched from a distance, barely talking; you could see Molly was put out. Emily was smiling more brightly than ever, her green eyes full of happiness. While playing outside, she was being so careful, avoiding the sandpit so she wouldnt mess up her new dress. But we got caught up in our games and lost track of her for a second. Suddenly, we all heard this piercing scream. We spun round, and there was Emily, sitting in a puddle, her beautiful dress torn. Molly towered over her, laughing in such a mean way. Emily was sobbing her heart out, realising how upset her dad would be when he saw the ruined dress. “You’re just a beggar, not a princess!” Molly sneered.
Watching that unfold honestly shook me, seeing how Molly ruined Emilys special day just for fun. It left a real mark, making me vow never to hurt someone intentionally.
