Annoyed by the disrespectful comment and lack of courtesy, Margaret retorted, I have important things to attend to! You really ought to be ashamed of yourself! The exchange quickly grew tense as the woman began to criticize Margaret for walking beside the puddles.
Just then, a tall, distinguished gentleman emerged from a neighbouring house, drawn out by the commotion. Observing the scene, he inquired, Is something the matter? The fair-haired woman immediately responded, This old dear is the root of all the fuss, and now shes bothering me. But when the gentleman caught sight of Margaret, his face lit up with recognition, and he exclaimed warmly, Margaret, how wonderful to see you again! He embraced his favourite teacher from his school days sincerely, and upon realising that his secretary had unwittingly splashed Margaret, he began offering earnest apologies.
Taking responsibility for his employees behaviour, the gentleman insisted upon a proper apology to Margaret. The fair-haired woman begrudgingly muttered a subdued, Im sorry. Because of her conduct, the gentleman decided to dismiss her from service. Having done so, he kindly helped Margaret home, waited while she changed her clothes, and went so far as to buy fresh flowers and a large cake, ensuring the birthday celebration for her friend would be a joyous one.
