We have only one daughter, so we have always pampered her and raised her like a real princess. I could rarely say no to those bright green eyes that glowed with happiness when I got another “wish”.
I was sure that thanks to this upbringing, my daughter would choose a man who would treat her with dignity, but she fell in love with Michael… The thing is that Michael lost his father when he was 5 years old, his mother was very sorry for him, she did everything for him. So it turned out that my son-in-law lived with his mother until he was 30 and earned nothing, and when he got married, nothing changed. Now he goes to work, works for a while, and then quits, because he doesn’t like something. And then he sits without work for a year again…
Our matchmaker is a very hard-working, kind woman, but it’s a pity that she couldn’t raise her son the same way.
They live in an apartment that my wife and I gave to our daughter for her 18th birthday, drive a car that we gave her as a wedding present, and live on the money that my daughter earns… She earns well, but it’s not enough for everything, because she’s supporting two people. Michael does not care that he is sitting on his wife’s neck. Why should it bother him, though, if he used to live the same way, only with his mother?
During the two years of their marriage, the son-in-law worked for two months… It hurts me to look at my daughter now, because she has become very thin, lost weight and no longer looks like that girl with sparkles in her eyes. First, I called my son-in-law to talk to him seriously about finding a job. I didn’t hear anything new – there are few jobs, everywhere is a referral, and what remains is either poorly paid or hard work. Realizing that there was no point in talking to him, I decided to turn my attention to my daughter.
Just like in the old days, I invited her to spend time with me on the weekend. I went for a walk with her. We went shopping, updated her wardrobe, and then went to our favorite restaurant, where I started asking my daughter if she was happy with this family life together.
– “Dad, you know I love Michael,” my daughter began, “I believe that he will succeed and find a job, as long as he keeps looking. But you know, I wish it would happen sooner, because now everything is on my shoulders. I come home from work and run to the store, and then I start cooking, and then I have to clean the house and spend time with my husband, so I don’t have time for myself.
– Can’t Michael cook himself so that you can come home from work and relax?
– He says it’s a woman’s business…
– Well, yes, but he’s doing his manly job – earning money!
That evening I called my friends and arranged for them to hire my son-in-law. The company is very prestigious, the earnings are good, so there would be no reason to refuse. And my son-in-law did start working, but his inspiration lasted for a month, and then he just didn’t come, saying that he needed more time to rest.
This time, my daughter could not stand it and quarreled with him. She told him to get out of her apartment and that she would be ready to talk to him only when he started working.
Two months have passed since our daughter has been living alone and she seems to have blossomed again! And my wife and I are finally calm for her!
