I had to return home after my vacation, and it was a long journey, so I decided to take a place on the train in the compartment.
I got a place on the top shelf, but it wasn’t critical, I was planning to sleep the whole way anyway. My fellow passengers were a mother with her 4-year-old son. I thought that the child would make noise and interfere, but it turned out that the boy was very calm and quiet. When my son fell asleep my companion and I talked for a while, drank tea and went to bed.
In the morning I was awakened by a knock at the door. Two men from law enforcement came into the compartment. -Have you seen the child? -There he is, on the first shelf sleeping. In the corner of the shelf a little boy was just visibly sleeping, all huddled up, probably frozen. -We’ll need to ask you some questions.
Turns out my traveling companion decided to have a lot to drink last night. Then she got off at the wrong station. In the morning, when she sobered up, she thought her baby had been kidnapped. So the cops rushed to search the train. She was just drunk and forgot that she had left the baby in the compartment.
It is frightening to think what is in the mind of such a mother, who is so out of control. It’s good that she forgot about the child, and he slept peacefully all night. Otherwise she would have gone out with him to some forgotten village, she would have fallen asleep on the road, and the child would have been lost in the woods.
How the fate of this boy turned out – I do not know, but I really hope that the mother was not left unpunished. Although the fine is unlikely to bring to mind such a spoiled brat.
