My grandmother told me this story. It happened back in 1970. Back then, she and her cousin were graduating from medical school. And it is about the second one that we will talk about.
In the group, Sarah was friends with several girls. One of them was Monica, a very modest and quiet girl. She happened to be an orphan, and her only support was her old grandmother, who could only give her a pittance from her pension that she had left. Unfortunately, she did not always receive a scholarship either, because she could fail her exams.
After graduating from college, Monika was sent to a village near the city. She became the only woman there. She was given an apartment and a paramedic station. Back then, it was an annex to the medical center itself, which was very convenient. The entrance to her house was in the back, and her work was in the front.
She had many boyfriends in the village, but only one got to her heart. Six months later, they announced their wedding. The recording was ready, the dress was bought, and the invitations were sent out. They planned to celebrate the wedding at the bride’s house.
Monika was sincerely in love with the guy and saw a bright future in him. She also treated his parents very well, accepting them as her own.
However, at one point, the groom was afraid of the responsibility that would come with the appearance of a wife and said that there would be no wedding, as if we would postpone it for a while. A letter was sent to the guests saying that the wedding was canceled.
On the night of the celebration, neighbors saw the lights on in her house, but decided not to ask if she was okay, as she sometimes stayed up late studying books.
In the morning, patients came to the medical center, but it was closed. We went to the house to see if everything was okay, because Monika was a great worker and did not allow herself to be late.
The door was open. They knocked first, and when no one answered, they decided to push it open. In the middle of the room was a table set up like a wedding for guests. At the head of the table sat the dead Monika in her beautiful white dress.
When they called a doctor from the city, he said that she could not survive everyone’s betrayal and public shame, so she took pills and committed suicide…
