Im a police officer, and my daily routine is one I know well. As usual, my German shepherd, Maxa dog with an impeccable sense of smellaccompanied me on patrol. He was loyal, calm, and always ready to act at the first sign of danger. That day, at 4 p.m., everything seemed normal.
But suddenly, without warning, Max began acting strangely. He stopped abruptly, ears perked up, scanning the area with unusual intensity. Then he started circling, sniffing the air as if searching for something specific. His eyes gleamed with focus. Intrigued, I followed him. Max, usually so composed, seemed onto something serious.
He headed straight for a woman pushing a stroller. She walked slowly, oblivious. Without hesitation, Max rushed toward her, sniffing insistently. Then he started barkingloud, urgent, more like a howl, as if sounding an alarm.
The startled woman froze, giving me a nervous glance. I approached the stroller to see what had unsettled Max. He kept barking, urging me to investigate. Cautiously, I lifted the blanket, expecting a sleeping babybut there was no child inside.
