So I was driving down the motorway, just going about my usual errands, you know? The road was pretty quietjust the odd car zooming past while my favourite song played on the radio. I was relaxed, barely even thinking about the drive.
Then out of nowhere, this dog bolts right into the road in front of me. I slammed on the brakes, tyres screeching, and my car stopped just inches from it. Couldve been a proper disaster. But the weird thing? The dog didnt even flinch. Just stood there staring at me, barking like mad, eyes all intense.
At first, I thought, Is this thing rabid? and stayed put in the car. But there was something offit didnt look crazy, more desperate, like it was begging me for something. Then I noticed it wasnt a strayclean, well-kept, black and white fur. Someones pet, definitely. But why was it going berserk like that?
Then I spotted something in the grass on the verge. At first glance, I thought it was just rubbish, but when I looked closerbloody hell. My stomach dropped. There was a baby. Just a tiny thing, maybe six months old, lying there wriggling, arms reaching out.
Everything clicked. The kid mustve crawled out from the house nearby. The dog had seen it and followed, then when the baby got too close to the road, the dog ran into traffic on purposerisking its life to stop any cars. It wasnt barking for no reasonit was screaming for help.
I jumped out, scooped up the babytotally fine, just a bit startled. The dog went quiet then, just whining softly. I hurried to the house and knocked. This womanthe mumanswered, went white as a sheet when she saw the baby in my arms, then burst into tears.
I explained what happened and pointed at the dog. It sat there, watching the baby like a hawk, making sure everything was alright. The mum rushed over, hugged the dog tight, and whispered, You saved him
And right then, I knewthis wasnt just a loyal dog. It was a proper guardian angel.
