At the universitys military department, there was a doctor who taught medical courses. All her life, she had worked in a childrens hospital, and she once shared a rather curious story. Despite her profession, her own children seemed to catch every infectious illness imaginable. She was constantly bringing home new viruses, and it was so relentless that she became exhausted from treating her own kids. Yet the children were lively and full of energy, always running about and laughing.
Naturally, the doctor took every precaution regarding hygiene. She always showered and changed clothes as soon as she got home, making sure to wash her hands thoroughly. But somehow, her children kept succumbing to the very same illnesses she treated at the hospital, and especially after particularly difficult cases, the kids would fall ill almost right away. Vitamins didnt help, nor did regular outdoor exercise, and eventually their mum-doctor began to despair.
One evening after a hard day at work, she was utterly worn out, having just dealt with a particularly challenging case. The idea of going home filled her with dread, as she was sure her children would soon be sick again. So, on a whim, she decided to go to the cinema and ended up watching the latest Indiana Jones film. After the movie, feeling both guilty and thrilled, she returned homeonly to find her children still cheerful and healthy.
A few days later, she visited a friend for tea and biscuits, laughing together at a funny story. Again, her kids remained perfectly well. This became her new routine: instead of heading home straight from work completely drained, she would first stroll through the local park filled with fragrant blooms and a gentle fountain. Shed sit for a while on a bench, gathering her thoughts, and only then would she return home. Miraculously, her childrens health improved, and they no longer caught every bug that came their way.
From all this, the doctor concluded that illness isnt just about germs. She realised it had just as much to do with the kind of energy or mood she brought into the house. Bringing home stress or worry after a difficult day unintentionally affected her children, even if she said nothing about it. Since adopting her new habit, not a single illness had entered their home.
So, really, its not wise to hurry home to your loved ones in a downtrodden mood straight after something unpleasant. Without meaning to, you can bring negativity into their lives, even without saying a word. Its far better, after a bad experience, to spend some time in a new environment to clear your mindwhether thats watching a film, having tea with a friend, or strolling through the park. Only then, after finding something cheerful to focus on, should you return to those you cherish. How exactly this works, scientists are still endeavouring to explain, but one thing is certain: a little time to lift your spirits does wondersfor yourself and for those you love.
