So, picture this: its six in the morning and my husband literally pulled me out of bed. At first, I thought maybe it was just a bizarre accident, but the exact same thing happened the next day. This all started after we visited his mums place in the countryside.
Wed only been married for about six months, but after those mornings, I immediately decided I wanted a divorce. The real reason behind my husbands behaviour completely floored me, honestly. Let me explain.
See, Im a city girl through and through and Ive never in my life needed to get up at the crack of dawn. Right now, Im working with an international company so my shifts are all over the placeoften at night because time zones and all that. When its daytime here, its middle of the night over there, so my routine is a bit all over the shop.
My husband, Samuel, is originally from a little village where everyone is up before the sun and its all about early mornings. Even after he moved to the city, he never let go of his old habits: up before six, demanding eggs and a coffee for breakfast.
I always have breakfast at seven sharp, he told me when we first met.
I just laughed it off back then, didnt think anything of it! Besides, after a night shift, I figured I could easily sneak in a nap during the day.
For the first six months of us living together, it all went pretty smoothly. I did my best to keep up with his routines when I remembered, and we made it work. Everything seemed great between us.
But then came the trip to his mums. She lives in this tiny village, in an old but cosy cottage. The first time I set foot in her house, I genuinely thought it would be a perfect break: home-baked cakes, comfy chats over a cuppa, proper countryside bliss. Yeah, that was wishful thinking.
Just a few hours in, I realised it was going to be nothing like I imagined. His mum always found something to nit-pick about.
The real trouble started the very next morning.
She needs to be woken up properly, like we do round here, his mum said over breakfast, while I was still blissfully asleep. As I found out later, Samuel took her words to heart and decided to teach me to get up earlyvillage style.
The first time he yanked me out of bed, I was honestly in shock.
What on earth are you playing at?! I shouted, absolutely fuming and a bit scared, to be honest.
You never hear your alarm. Mum says this is the right way to wake you up, he replied, dead calm, like he was helping.
But I work nights! I actually need to get some decent rest to function!
Its how we do things in my family, Samuel insisted, as if that explained all.
The next morning, he did it again. I started to feel like he and his mum were messing with me on purpose.
I just couldnt wrap my head around how the bloke I thought Id spend my whole life with could change so quickly, just because his mum said so.
When we got back home, Samuel had completely changed. It was non-stop: Mum knows best, over and over. That stubborn streak made me realise were simply far too different.
Right now, Im sorting out the divorce papers. Honestly, my patience has completely run dry.
What would you have done if you were in my shoes? Maybe I really am making a snap decision, but I just cant see it working out.
