My wife and I were over the moon when we found out our son was getting married. Before the wedding, we quietly let him know we wanted to surprise him with a flat as a wedding gift. William was delighted when he heard our plans. All his friends found out that same day. But as we were busy preparing for the wedding, disaster struck unexpectedly.
Our daughter was rushed to the hospital straight from work, having fallen ill suddenly. My wife and I got there as fast as humanly possible. The tests showed she had a tumour and needed surgery right away. Naturally, we needed a lot of money quickly. Luckily, we caught it just in time.
Buying a flat for our son was out of the question under these circumstances. Instead, we scrambled to collect the money needed for her treatment. Thank goodness our family and friends stepped in to help they couldnt simply ignore our misfortune. Everyone chipped in as much as they could. Some gave us money and told us not to worry about ever paying them back. With everyones help, we managed to gather enough for the operation.
But then our son shocked us with what he said.
What about my flat? You promised me! Youre ruining my life.
When William said those words, I was completely stunned. How could he say such a thing? How could he be so selfish? Shes his sister. They grew up together. How could he put his wedding and her operation on equal footing? I was lost for words. And William wasnt finished.
Why does she get everything and I get nothing?
I couldnt take it anymore and ended up shouting at him. I told him I didnt want to see him. He packed his bags and left for his fiancées house. We didnt speak for a fortnight.
During that time, my daughter had her operation. Thankfully, everything went well. A few weeks later, she was discharged. I never told her about her brothers behaviour it was too shameful, and there was no need to upset her. Our son didnt call us either not once did he ask about his sisters wellbeing. Apparently, the flat meant far more to him than family bonds.
