It seems like ages ago now, but I still remember how Emily met her husband. It was at the wedding of some mutual friends in Manchester. They locked eyes almost instantly, feeling the spark, and spent the whole evening lost in conversation and laughter. Their romance blossomed quickly, and within a few months, they said their vows and settled into a cosy one-bedroom flat together.
Soon after, Emily discovered she was expecting. Fate had it that she never managed to get a proper scan during her pregnancythere was always something in the way. She caught a cold, her boss wouldnt let her leave early, or some other reason would crop up.
Pregnancy wasnt easy. Emily tired quickly, dealt with constant nausea, and her back ached endlessly. Her growing belly made it difficult to walk for long, so most days she would lie down, trying to find comfort. In that last month, she didnt step outside at all. Though her husband loved her dearly and cared for her, his job kept him away most of the time.
Labour began earlier than expected. The doctors stayed close by her side throughout. One after another, her triplets arriveda boy and two girls. Emily was stunned. When her husband entered the room, bewilderment crossed his face. In a single moment, he found himself the father of three.
As Emily rested at the hospital, he bought cribs for the babies. They had little spacejust the one-bedroom flatand no family home to return to. Soon, the reality of everyday life set in: sleepless nights, childhood illnesses. Emilys husband wished things could go back to how they werecarefree love, romantic evenings, late-night chats. But those days were gone.
Emily struggled to keep up with the demands of three little ones and found herself with barely a moment for her husband. Eventually, he snapped. One morning, he headed off to work and simply never came back.
Emily called everywherehospitals, police, friendsbut it was all pointless. He had left her and their children behind.
In that hard moment, Emily realised she must be strong, for she alone bore responsibility for her children. Her mother soon moved in to lend a hand, and together they raised the triplets, though every day was a challenge. Emily stayed home until the children turned two, living off her child benefits and her mothers state pension.
A new shopping centre opened nearby, and Emily applied for a job theredespite her three children. She proved herself reliable, so they hired her.
From then on, life became smoother. Later, Emily was able to afford a nanny, easing her mothers burden. After a few years, Emily earned a promotion. She transformed, becoming a confident, well-groomed woman. That was how her ex-husband saw her when he visited his parents back in town.
He called on the children and asked Emily for forgiveness, hoping shed grant him a second chance. Emily looked at him and recognised somethingher feelings had faded long ago. She told him so. When he left, Emily breathed freely. She had finally put the past behind her. And her future lay ahead, shining brightly yet unwritten.
