Emily met her husband at a wedding of mutual friends. They fell for each other instantly, spending the whole evening side by side. Their relationship blossomed quickly, and just a few months after meeting, they got married and moved in together. Some time later, Emily discovered she was expecting. Somehow, she never managed to have an ultrasound during her pregnancyshe was unwell at times, her boss wouldnt let her leave work early, or another issue cropped up each time.
Pregnancy wasnt easy for Emily. She grew tired easily, constantly battled nausea, and suffered from persistent back pain. Her belly was so large that she couldnt walk for longer stretches, so she often had to rest. During the last month before her due date, she barely left the house. Her husband loved her and looked after her, but most days he was caught up at work.
Labour began early, ahead of schedule. The doctors didnt leave her side. One after another, she delivered triplets: two girls and a boy. Emily was stunned. When her husband entered the room, he could hardly believe his eyes. In a blink, hed become a father to three children.
While Emily was still in hospital, he bought cots for the babies. Space was tightthey only had a one-bedroom flat and nowhere else to go. And then real life set in: sleepless nights, illnesses, and endless routines. Her husband dreamt things would be as they once werehappy, carefree love, romantic evenings, and late-night conversations. But none of that happened.
Emily could barely keep up with her little ones, leaving no time for her husband. Eventually, he reached his breaking point. One morning, he left for work and never returned.
Emily called everywhere she could think ofthe hospital, the police, their friends. All to no avail. It turned out he couldnt take it anymore and simply ran away from his wife and children.
It was then Emily realised she had to be strong. She was responsible for her children now. Her mother moved in and helped her care for the babies. Together, they raised the children, although it was far from easy. Emily stayed at home with the kids until they turned two. They survived on child benefit and her mothers pension.
A new shopping centre opened nearby, and Emily managed to get a job there. She proved to be incredibly reliable, so they offered her the position even though she was a mother of triplets.
From that point forward, things got much lighter. Later, Emily was able to hire a nanny, easing the load on her mother. A few years down the line, Emily was promoted. She changed dramaticallybecoming a confident, well-groomed woman. Thats how her ex-husband saw her when he returned to visit his parents in town.
He came to see the children and asked Emily to forgive him for everything. He hoped she would give him another chance. Emily looked at him and realised something importantshe would never go back to this man. Her feelings for him had faded long ago. Thats what she told him. When he left, Emily breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally let go of the past. And her future lay ahead, full of promise.
