One morning, my father was driving to work and stopped at a petrol station to fill up his car. There, he noticed a young pregnant woman, aged 19, asking for help. She approached and asked if he had any spare change, but he explained that he was sorry, he didnt have any coins on him, and started to get back into his car to leave.
But after a brief pause, he stepped out again and asked the woman how shed come to be in this situation. She shared that she’d fallen out with her parents because they disagreed with some choices she had made in her life. She had become pregnant outside of marriage and her family had asked her to leave home. My father asked if she had any work or financial support, and she replied that she didnt.
After listening to her story, my father made a choice: he handed her his business card and told her to ring him the next day. The young woman called, and my father invited her for a meeting at his office. They spoke, and he arranged an interview for her. One week later, she started workingat first, answering phone calls and running simple errands.
Over time, she proved herself, eventually becoming one of the assistant managers. Today, she has a small family of her own and is thriving.
This experience taught me that sometimes, true kindness means looking beyond initial judgments and offering someone a fresh start. You never know how much one act of compassion can change the course of a life.
