This morning, as Dad was driving to work, he stopped at a petrol station to fill up the car. While he was there, he noticed a young woman, about nineteen, asking for spare change. She was heavily pregnant and looked utterly lost. She approached Dad for help, but he apologised, saying he didnt have any coins on him, and climbed back into the car, ready to leave.
But just as he was about to pull away, Dad paused. He got out again and went over to ask her how shed ended up in such a predicament. She told him that shed had a falling out with her parentsthey didnt approve of her choices, particularly that she was expecting a child out of wedlock. In their anger, theyd made her leave home. Dad asked if she had a job or any financial support, but she shook her head, saying she had no one to turn to.
After listening to her story, Dad thought for a moment, then handed her his business card. He told her to call him the following day. True to his word, when she phoned, Dad invited her to meet him at his office for a chat about work. She had an interview and, within a week, joined the company. At first, her duties were simple: answering phone calls and running odd errands. Over time, she impressed everyone with her dedication and soon found herself promoted to assistant manager.
Now, she has a small family of her own and is thriving. Thinking back, I feel proud of Dad’s compassion that day and realise how life can turn around through simple acts of kindness.
